T&T's shooting star Roger Daniel will be in action today on the second day of the Pan American Games in Quadelajara, Mexico.Daniel, will take aim in the qualification round of the Men's 10m Air Pistol event in the 16th edition of the Games.At the last Games which was hosted in Rio de Janiero, Brazil, the soldier placed 14th in the event.T&T women's beach volleyball team of Elki Phillip and Ayana Dyette will also be action in a tough match up against world champion duo Juliana Silva and Larissa Franca of Brazil in their opening Pool B match at the Pan American Beach Volleyball Stadium in Jalisco.
Tomorrow, the local pair will play Cubans Nirian and Onayami Sinal and on Tuesday Ariana Vilela/Katherine Chila of Ecuador in their final preliminary match.In 2007, T&T won four medals a silver from cyclist Emile Abraham in the Men's Individual Road Race, and three bronze from shot-putter Cleopatra Borel, swimmer George Bovell and Chinedum Osuji.Bovell success came in the in the Men's 50m freestyle and Osuji in the Men's -80kg taekwondo event. The United States quickly moved to the top of the medals table, with Heather Irmiger winning the competition's first gold in the women's cross-country mountain bike race.
Jeremiah Bishop added a bronze in the men's event.There were nine more gold medals to be won on the first day of competition in Guadalajara, including five in the swimming pool.Irmiger won the 24.8-kilometer mountain bike circuit, in one hour, 34 minutes, 9 seconds.Laura Lorenza Morfin of Mexico took silver in 1:35:54 and Amanda Sin of Canada was third in 1:37:14.Defending champion Hector Paez of Colombia won the gold medal in the men's race in 1:31:12, followed by Max Plaxton of Canada in second in 1:31:29. Bishop was third in 1:32:41.
