The breakaway faction of the Public Services Association (PSA) is calling for Watson Duke to be jailed.Several of its members said he was a disgrace to the trade union movement. Rosanna Robinson, who was installed as president after a controversy a few months ago, said Duke had been banned from office since September 14.She and several PSA members attended yesterday's protest by the joint trade union movement. Robinson said they attended to support the initiatives of the labour movement.
She said she and her executive were being debarred from carrying out their legitimate functions.Robinson said the new executive had acquired its own office which would be launched next week. She spoke with reporters at the Brian Lara Promenade after the protest in Port-of-Spain.Robinson said: "We want to tell persons do not be intimidated by this gentleman (Duke) and his cohorts at 89 Abercromby Street."You have your constitutional right and it must never be infringed on at any point in time."
She said the controversy started because of the five per cent offer which Duke had protested against for months. She recalled Duke's infamous words "ungratefulness is worse than witchcraft" at a march earlier this year, saying it was ironic that he labelled the unions "dinosaurs" after showing support during the PSA's struggles. With support from others, clad in PSA T-shirts, a man said: "Mr Duke does not speak for the PSA."This woman (Robinson) does and we will be moving strongly to remove him from 89 Abercromby Street come next week."He does not speak for the PSA. He has been dismissed. We are going to be calling on public officers to hit the streets to get rid of Mr Duke."He took our $4 million and we don't know what is going on with it and we want to see Mr Duke behind bars."
