The Tracmac corporate social responsibility team came out in their numbers recently to help the children of the Chaguanas-based Jaya Lakshmi Home learn the basics of farming and agriculture.The project, which was themed, Grow With Us, was focused on teaching the children some of the basics of agricultural farming, specifically vegetable farming.The team taught planting techniques for lettuce, tomatoes, patchoi, sweet peppers, hot peppers and paw paw.
In a statement, Tracmac, a member of the Neal and Massy Group, said it donated gardening tools, fertiliser and spray cans and taught the older children basic maintenance practices to ensure the sustainability of the garden."As they continue their drive to increase agricultural awareness, members of the Tracmac group have scheduled future visits to the home, to harvest and replant crops.
Tracmac was also proud to host an evening of Christmas excitement, on November 24, for the 19 residents of the home.The children gathered at the Tracmac compound and were treated fun in a bouncy castle, face painting, bran tub and a puppet show.Santa Claus also paid a visit to distribute gifts.
