Morermaloke is a 'penalty kick' without a goalie in the Maiden Stakes over five furlongs of Lingfield polytrack today, the definitive 'yankee anchor.' Brian Meehan's charge achieved a 'career-best' earlier this month, way superior to her six rivals and it will be a major disappointment, if this Bahamian Bounty gelding doesn't go one better and get off the mark at the sixth attempt. Another solid, 'professioinal special' should be Peace Corps in the Selling Stakes over twelve furlongs. I simply can't find the semblance of a danger and hopefully, Stephen Craine will put this to bed with a positive front-running performance, thus sorting out the wheat from the chaff.
Luke Morris is making a determined challenge on the all-weather jockeys' championship and Mashoood could well be another 'notch,' in the aged handicap over two miles; the distance is ideal. That can't be said for marginally top-rated Rosewood Lad and with good, recent form Mashood justifies a serious each-way bet, if all eight declarations go to post. Make sure they do! Another, hell-bent on making it happen this year, is Robert Winston. "I'll be spending a lot of time in the gym and improving my riding style, getting lower...!" said this indefatigable Irishman recently.
None better than Winston and Il Battista appears to be his best ride of the day in the six-runner, 3-y-o handicap over seven furlongs at Wolverhampton where, over same course and distance, Chinese Democracy ought to be sufficiently advantaged by the 7lbs apprentice allowance of Matthew Cosham in the 'aged' handicap. Cosham is certainly living up to his name and seems dedicated.
