UNC executive officials yesterday said the furore surrounding the Reshmi Ramnarine issue is affecting Government's profile. They admitted the Government was taking heavy flack on the situation but argued that the "PNM did no better." Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar on Monday denied her events adviser, Sasha Mohammed, who was pictured socialising with former SSA head Reshmi Ramnarine recently, recommended Ramnarine to her for the post. Persad-Bissessar told reporters the recommendation came from the SSA's deputy director.
Former prime minister Basdeo Panday also called for Persad-Bissessar to explain what Mohammed's job as events adviser involved. He queried if it was a created post, saying it seemed like a waste of taxpayers' money. Yesterday, a Government source claimed MP Chandresh Sharma and Attorney General Anand Ramlogan had recommended Ramnarine. Sharma was unavailable yesterday. Ramlogan, speaking from Antigua, said: "The recommendation came from the SSA's deputy director." Meanwhile, Housing Minister Roodal Moonilal yesterday denied a newspaper report he had written the statement delivered by National Security Minister John Sandy in Parliament last Friday on the issue.
