Corporate entities, Angostura Ltd and Carib Brewery Limited, will contribute $1 million toward the National Carnival Commission (NCC) activity over the Carnival season. The signing of the agreement was held yesterday at the House of Angostura, Laventille. Chief executive officer of Angostura, Wayne Yip Choy, said the company would operate all bars at various venues at the different Carnival events at Skinner Park and Queen's Park Savannah. Sponsorship and events manager of Carib Brewery, Colin Murray, said that would be a collaborative effort as Carib products would be sold exclusively at the various bars. Carla Furlong, Carib's marketing director, also stated that the company would be bringing back the stage to Ariapita Avenue.
Both companies have had a long history in the involvement of Carnival which includes the sponsorship of steelbands. Yip Choy said: "To produce the greatest show on earth, there must be partnership among all Trinis who share in that spirit of Carnival." Meanwhile, chairman of the NCC, Kenny de Silva, appealed to other corporate entities to come onboard. He said the lack of involvement from corporate bodies always had been an issue. He said Carnival contributed over $1 billion to the national economy and there were so many benefits to be derived from such ventures and still these companies pledge very little support.
