A man who reportedly tried to rob a Curepe family yesterday was beaten by the victims' relatives and neighbours who made a citizen's arrest. Yesterday's incident followed last week Thursday's robbery in which Penal residents beat two suspects at Old Clarke Road. Both were taken to San Fernando General Hospital, where one was pronounced dead on arrival.
Roger Hosein and his common-law wife Nisha Alexander were allegedly chopped and robbed in last week's incident. The suspects were then cornered by angry residents. A suspect has since appeared in court in connection with the incident. Shamshad Ali, a Penal resident who was detained by police, was released on Sunday night. After the incident, Justice Minister Herbert Volney urged citizens not to take the law into their own hands when dealing with the criminal element.
In yesterday's incident, police said the family members were at their home when they were attacked. Relatives and neighbours overpowered the robber and bundled him into a vehicle, police said.
He was taken to St Joseph Police Station. He was then taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex for injuries sustained in the beating.
