Trin­bag­on­ian Ja­neel Abra­ham, tu­tor, per­form­ing artist, di­rec­tor, and daugh­ter of one of T&T’s most hu­mor­ous ca­lyp­so­ni­ans, Lord Bri­go (Samuel Abra­ham), is set to give her USA home­town, Li­ma, Ohio, a Caribbean cul­tur­al ex­pe­ri­ence with a dif­fer­ence.

On Sun­day from 6-10pm, the Allen Coun­ty Fair­grounds, 1750 Hard­ing High­way, Li­ma, Ohio 45804, “will be a burst of en­er­gy.”

As lead co-or­di­na­tor, the Li­ma Caribbean Fes­ti­val in part­ner with Richards Events will of­fer the Li­ma Caribbean Ex­pe­ri­ence 2022, “nov­el to the town, and an epic cel­e­bra­tion of Caribbean cul­ture and her­itage.”

Slat­ed to per­form are pan­nists, St Maarten US-based Mighty Dow and US-based Trinida­di­an Kin­da John, and US Vir­gin Is­lands’ Ec­cen­tric Moko Jumbies, and En­chant­ed Lim­bo Dancers Group.

Samuel clar­i­fied that while the town has had cul­tur­al events, the fes­ti­val will ramp up the ex­pe­ri­ence.

“I have many mem­o­ries that have cre­at­ed a great love for the Caribbean her­itage and mu­sic. I have vis­it­ed many is­lands in the Caribbean and while there, seek out venues that pro­vide ways to ex­pe­ri­ence the cul­ture and mu­sic. Al­though I’m born and raised in Li­ma, Ohio, I have lived in oth­er re­gions of our coun­try and have trav­eled through­out the world. Un­for­tu­nate­ly, there are peo­ple in our com­mu­ni­ty who have been un­able to ex­pe­ri­ence the wide va­ri­ety of cul­tures through­out the world.

“Li­ma has been for­tu­nate to have many in­ter­na­tion­al com­pa­nies with lo­cal as­so­ciates who bring their cul­ture here and are will­ing to share that with oth­ers.

“Through the arts, our lo­cal the­atres, sym­pho­ny, Civic Cen­ter, and small lo­cal venues, many peo­ple are cre­at­ing events to show­case the tal­ents, cul­ture, mu­sic, and rich his­to­ry of oth­er coun­tries.”

Ten­walde ex­pressed that this type of event is an­oth­er way to ben­e­fit the com­mu­ni­ty res­i­dents as an af­ford­able way to ex­pe­ri­ence the cul­ture and mu­sic of Caribbean her­itage, and she’s hap­py that a Trinida­di­an is in­volved.

“I am ex­cit­ed for oth­ers who have been un­able to vis­it the Caribbean Is­lands to ob­serve these in­stru­ments, dances, and art­form, first­hand.

The Li­ma/Allen Coun­ty Cham­ber of Com­merce ex­ists to work with small busi­ness­es to help them grow, ex­pand, and pros­per.”
