“Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud.” ~Maya Angelou
At The Face and Body Clinic, every client feels as if they have just had a dose of a visceral rainbow infused into their skin, and they are now glowing confidently and rejuvenated to take on the chaos of the world once more.
This quote resonates with the culture of The Face and Body Clinic, and it echoes the numerous affirmative testimonies from clients–as a place of warm welcomes, sophisticated and innovative services au courant with international spa standards.
During the interview with the WE magazine, comfortably surrounded by the professional ambience of the spa, General Manager of The Face and Body Clinic, Pamela Bhagwandass, reflected on her expansive career in the cosmetology/beauty industry. Her wisdom conveys her resilience, compassion and promise to improve the lives of those she encounters, from her employees to clients to the vulnerable in society. She is indeed that rainbow in any cloud.
Celebrating 40 years with distinction
With the vision of being a ‘One-Stop Shop’ for all ages and skin types, this institution has been established for over 40 years, impacting the landscape of skincare treatments available in T&T.
The Face and Body Clinic was one of the first in the Caribbean to offer laser hair removal in the year 2000. “Since then, we have continuously upgraded to offer the latest advancements and technology in non-invasive skincare, which includes laser hair removal, stretch mark removal, tattoo removal, laser peel, the laser lift (non-surgical facelift) and so much more,” Bhagwandass shares.
Alongside her husband, Steven Bhagwandass, their team of expert aestheticians, laser and massage therapists provide a range of treatments that seek to pamper and relax both body and mind. ‘Sophisticated, revolutionary, innovative and effective’, this describes the exclusive Germaine de Capuccini products, treatments and professional programmes upon which The Face & Body Clinic is built.
“We are the exclusive distributor of Germaine De Cappuccini for the past 25 years, a distinctive European brand that operates its own laboratories and is always upgrading to meet current trends. They were even awarded for creating one of the best sunblock formulations in the world.”
Attention to excellence
“Our primary goal is excellent client satisfaction, and we strive to provide attentive care and services that leave each client satisfied. Everything we have built has been built on the foundation of our faith in God. At all five locations, our staff comes together and pray at the start of each day. There are so many people experiencing anxiety and stress out there, especially since COVID-19. When someone comes to us, we want them to experience not just a service, but to have that sense of peace, comfort and care. I believe we should always strive to leave someone better off than when we first met them,” Bhagwandass passionately shares.
Helping the vulnerable
Pamela Bhagwandass, who is also a qualified social worker, opened the door to her personal passion projects. “If everyone invested in the life of a child, this country would be in a better place.” Always keen on helping disadvantaged children, Bhagwandass and her family turned a dream into a reality in 2010 establishing ‘Haven of Hope’, a home for underprivileged children. “We welcomed our first two boys in 2010–aged four and six. These boys are now 17 and 19 and are both CAPE students at Presentation College. We were the first of two homes licensed with Children’s Authority. I always wanted it to be a ‘home’ not an ‘institution’, where disadvantaged children can feel a sense of love and care. Our quest is to offer these children hope and a future where they can be productive individuals in society.”
Focus on empowering women
As the interview proceeds, the general manager of The Face and Body Clinic walks down memory lane, reminiscing and sharing, “It has been a purposeful journey giving us great fulfilment in knowing that we have contributed to making others feel better about themselves and giving them that improved confidence to face the public. We have treated women from all walks of life and now treating second-generation clients.
“Many clients’ testimonies surface, one that stood out was a teacher. She stood in front of her class and a student callously stated, ‘MISS, YOU FORGOT TO SHAVE YOUR BEARD!’ This client came to the clinic and after a detailed consultation, her course of laser hair removal treatment was designed. This client expressed after the treatment, ‘You don’t know how much you changed my life!’
“Additionally, we ensure the up-to-date training of our staff. For over 25 years, we have provided training for women in the latest aesthetic trends and advanced technology in equipment applied to the body and beauty systems. We have not only provided employment for some of these women, but some have gone on to open their own businesses and thrive in the field of cosmetology,” shared Bhagwandass.
“We are not without our challenges. During COVID-19, definitely our most challenging time, where the clinic doors were closed, we continuously supported our staff members and remained innovative in our care to our clients. We were able to retain our staff of over 60 women who were still able to put food on the table for their families.”
A legacy of compassion
“Take care of your mind, body and soul. We are the foundation of our families and our communities. The same kindness you share, reserve some for yourself. Put no limit on what you can achieve and how you can positively impact someone. A moment of kindness can translate into a lifetime of impact. Never doubt how that act of kindness can transform a person’s life.”
Without a doubt, Pamela Bhagwandass is certainly walking the path and leaving a legacy of kindness and care and being a blessing to someone.
Carnival Skincare Tip
Sunscreen is essential to protect your skin from harmful UV rays, which can cause premature ageing and skin cancer. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 and reapply every two hours when spending time in the sun.
