Mas band Paparazzi has issued a call for hope, unity and connection for Carnival 2026, as the country continues to navigate a period of social and economic uncertainty.
With less than a month to go before Carnival Monday, at least four bandleaders have reported that costume sales remain steady, though not buoyant, reflecting both local economic pressures and wider regional tensions.
Against that backdrop, Paparazzi has deliberately linked its Carnival 2026 theme, Elope – Destination I Do, to the prevailing social climate, positioning Carnival as a space where people from different backgrounds can come together, reconnect and find renewal.
The theme invites participants to rediscover happiness through love, music, movement, friendship, heritage and personal healing—values the band sees as increasingly important in challenging times.
At the heart of the concept is the wedding vow “I do”, reimagined beyond its traditional meaning as a promise exchanged between two people. In Paparazzi’s interpretation, it becomes a broader declaration of personal and collective commitment, expressed through Carnival itself—to culture, identity, well-being and shared experience.
The band explains that destination-inspired storytelling is used to guide masqueraders on symbolic journeys of freedom, passion, renewal and celebration. While these imagined travels evoke escape and exploration, the narrative ultimately returns to Carnival as the central destination—a cultural homecoming rooted in tradition and community.
Set against a backdrop of national strain, Paparazzi frames its 2026 presentation as a reminder of Carnival’s enduring role as a unifying cultural force, capable of fostering connection and collective resilience.
“This is not just a theme; it is a promise—a promise to come together, a promise to celebrate love in all its forms, a promise to say ‘I do’ to Carnival, to country and to ourselves,” the band said.
