In celebration of Republic Day and all it represents—sovereignty, cultural pride, and the extraordinary potential of T&T’s people—four distinguished nationals will be recognised for their outstanding contributions to journalism, film, advocacy, and fashion.
On September 20, from 6 pm, the Sir Winston yacht will host The River Runway, taking over the Hudson River for a dazzling, Met Gala–inspired soirée in honour of T&T’s Republic Day in the United States.
Amid red carpet arrivals, celebrity performances, and breathtaking views of the Manhattan skyline, the evening will celebrate excellence while supporting the next generation of cultural innovators.
Dominic Kalipersad will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Caribbean Journalism and Public Discourse, honouring his fearless dedication to truth, his role in shaping regional media, and his lasting impact on public dialogue and democratic accountability across T&T and the wider Caribbean.
Asha Lovelace will be awarded the Heritage Award for Cultural Stewardship in Film Programming, recognising her curatorial vision, commitment to preserving and re-imagining T&T’s cinematic heritage, and amplifying under-represented voices through storytelling.
Nicole Dyer will receive the Beacon Award for Transformational Healing and Advocacy, honouring her resilience and ability to transform personal triumph into collective care. Her courage and dedication continue to inspire change and guide new approaches to healing in the Caribbean community.
Rick Davy will be presented with the Vanguard Award for Global Caribbean Influence in Fashion, celebrating his trailblazing contributions to fashion and his role in elevating Caribbean creativity and identity on the world stage. His visionary work continues to influence global conversations around style, representation, and cultural pride.
The awards will be presented by Chris Banks, council member for Brooklyn’s 42nd District and proud son of T&T descent. His presence underscores the vibrant Trinbagonian diaspora that continues to shape the cultural and social fabric of New York City.
Beyond glamour, the evening carries a powerful mission: proceeds will fund a groundbreaking film programme for young women in T&T, empowering the next generation of storytellers and cultural visionaries.
“Every ticket funds a girl’s journey from script to screen,” organisers say.
The occasion promises to be “the Republic Day celebration of the year in New York City—glamorous, unforgettable, and filled with national pride.”
