The T&T Film Festival will host a screening of the classic T&T film Bim tonight at the National Library, Port-of-Spain. The showing is the first of a series of film screenings in Side by Side, a programme in celebration of the 50th anniversary of independence. Side by Side also includes an exhibition opening on August 16 at NAPA, Port-of-Spain, and a film competition that ran from July-August. The film series runs until August 25 at various venues. Tonight’s screening begins at 7 pm with the short film This Land of Ours, followed by the rarely shown Bim, a 1974 thriller about the rise of a poor boy to wealth, power and corruption. Other films to be screened in the series include The Right and the Wrong, which was released in 1970 and was the first local feature film in colour, and a series of short films from the archives of the Government Film Unit. Side by Side is supported by the Inter-Ministerial Committee for the Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Independence. All the screenings are free and open to the public.
