Ambassador of Spain Maria Fernandez Lopez de Turiso hosted the launch of the European Film Festival (EFF) with a sneak peek of the films on its programme and a reception at his official residence on April 20.
The festival showcases some of the latest and best films from Europe, giving audiences a taste of Europe's diverse cultural landscape and the issues facing the people and countries on the continent.
Now in its 19th year, the festival was envisioned as a gift of cinema to the people of T&T and has grown into a must-attend event for T&T's independent film-loving audience, including schools and language students.
Last year the festival attracted more than 7,000 people over its two-week run.
The festival is organised by the European Union Member States with diplomatic missions in T&T: Spain, France, Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, as well as the EU Delegation, in partnership with the trinidad+tobago film festival.
Public screenings will take place on May 6-19 at MovieTowne, Port-of-Spain, and on May 13-19 at MovieTowne, Tobago.
The line-up of films is rich and varied, ranging from hard-hitting dramas and action thrillers to laugh-out-loud comedies and children's animations, with award-winning titles by some of Europe's top filmmakers among the selections.
An important part of the programme is the 11 am screenings for secondary school students, which seek to encourage and develop their foreign-language literacy and to bring the school curriculum alive.
Tickets for all screenings are $30 each, with tickets for children and students priced at $20.
