Cumana, (Merlin Suarez): In two months, a ship from the Government of T&T will begin sea trials between the Carúpano (Sucre, Venezuela) and Port-of-Spain ports as part of negotiations between the Sucre state executive and the Caribbean country to promote tourism and trade. This was informed by the Mayor of Sucre State, Bermudez, Julio Rodriguez, after completing the workshops with a delegation from the neighbouring country. The T&T delegation was led by Sharon Taylor, president of the State Authority Water Taxi Service Company, among other representatives, who visited the capital of Carúpano, Bermudez, to see the sea and air ports of this jurisdiction in eastern Venezuela.
Mayor Rodriguez said: "The intent is to have the approval of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, to enable Trinidadians to dock their ships at our pier, and let the "Sucrenses" (inhabitants of Sucre) travel to these islands, and vice versa. This is an exchange that will bring economic benefits and social tourism for both countries. He recalled that the port was refurbished which led to the launch of the route Carúpano (Sucre), Margarita (Nueva Esparta), through the company Ferryven which mobilises a capacity of 300 passengers daily. "We are concerned that, like them (Trinidad delegation) are convinced they are in a safe haven in an area that will provide all the benefits. We have a ferry company that travels to Margarita and we hope for the international transfer to the islands T&T," he added.
Also, the director of the Tourism Corporation in Sucre, Rosendo Acosta, said that since late last year they held meetings with the Government of T&T to consolidate this project with the State Authority Water Taxi company. "We are evaluating some conditions that we will give this company time in the neighbouring country so that in the medium-term, there will be movement from Carúpano to Trinidad, and vice versa, this route will enhance the benefits of Sucre state," he said.
