Mobilising for app success
The staggering rise of mobile phones uptake across the world has transformed how people interact with information and communication technologies.
Already it is estimated that more than six billion of the world’s population has access to cellphones. A major reason behind the explosive growth in mobile phone adoption globally, it that cellphones are becoming more powerful, more affordable, and more useful to consumers. Two major factors behind their increasing utility are mobile broadband access and the proliferation of mobile apps.
Triggered by the launch of the first iPhone and the creation of the first, true app eco-system, the mobile value chain is steadily shifting from the traditional pillars of the mobile economy, telecom services and mobile handsets into app ecosystems. This emerging component of the value chain is what we call the “mobile app economy” and it represents the fastest growing area in the mobile value chain today and will continue to do so in the foreseeable future.
