InvesTT president Racquel Moses says the organisation achieved a great deal in executing the investment mission to China, which ended in the city of Guangzhou on Saturday last.
"I think that we accomplished a lot in terms of having some good meetings that will definitely yield investment. But we also accomplished learning about how we want this kind of mission to go in the future," said Moses.
InvesTT led a team of about 30 local businessmen and entrepreneurs, who visited three Chinese cities, Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou in a mission that operated in parallel to the official mission, which was led by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar. The prime minister's team included the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Winston Dookeran, Minister of Energy, Kevin Ramnarine and Trade Minister, Vasant Bharath.
The purpose of the InvesTT mission to China was to encourage Chinese businesses to invest in T&T, particularly the non-energy sectors and, to that end, the agency hosted three investment forums in each of the three cities that the T&T delegation visited.
Apart from the forums, which each attracted over 100 Chinese businesspeople, Moses and Shymal Chandradathsingh, manager of investor sourcing, also held a number of face-to-face meetings with Chinese executives in their offices.
Moses and Chandradathsingh spoke with the Business Guardian at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Guangzhou, after the last investment forum.
