The minister said students with problems would be tackled in a bid to curb the school drop-out rate in Caroni Central. Ramadharsingh said he met with school principals at his Freeport constituency offices and would be working through his ministry to tackle social problems at the homes that may cause students to leave the education system and follow a socially unacceptable lifestyle. He said he was looking at tackling families affected by poverty, issues of parental disconnect, drug abuse and related woes. Ramdharsingh said he also plans to transport mentally challenged students to educational facilities. He said some schools have complained of having infrastructural problems. Ramdharsingh said schools should be upgraded to have safer surroundings, a high technical and comfortable learning environment.
