T&T's labour sector has a major role in reviving the economy. This is one of the main points put forward by Chaguanas North Secondary school during the National Youth Productivity forum hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce of T&T (AmCham T&T) in collaboration with University of T&T (UTT) yesterday. The forum, which was held at the Valsayn Teachers' College, Valsayn sought to feature 20 secondary schools from across the country discussing the theme, Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
Desiree Gobin-Seecharan, executive director of AmChamT&T, said the goal behind the forum is to produce informed and productive young persons who will be assets to themselves, employers and the nation at large. The Chamber said its primary goal is the enhancement of national competitiveness by aiding in identifying opportunities presented by globalisation and as such, this internationally acclaimed initiative, will show students the interconnectivity between the major stakeholders in society including business, Government and labour.
The forum should compel students to think critically about solutions to problems and how these solutions can be implemented, Gobin-Seecharan said. The forum was the last of the five rounds where North Gate College, Trinity College, Presentation College and Chaguanas North Secondary debated on four perspectives-civil society, Government, business and labour.
