The Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturers' Association (TTMA) joined with the rest of the nation in expressing its deep sadness at the news of the passing of Kenneth Valley, former Minister of Trade and Industry and has expressed its condolences to his family. In a release yesterday, the TTMA stated that Valley was a strong proponent of the diversification of the economy away from the oil and gas sectors and made great strides in presenting the case for growth of the secondary sectors of the economy. "Trinidad and Tobago's trade and business environment, and by extension the TTMA, experienced tremendous growth and development under his leadership and guidance as Minister, and his commitment to strengthening trade and investment opportunities between Trinidad and Tobago and emerging markets, within and beyond the Caribbean region was evident by the legislation which he championed and the policies he implemented," the release stated.
The release said the TTMA enjoyed a very engaging and dynamic relationship with Mr. Valley, who was open and willing to meet with the Association and intervened where necessary to address critical issues and inefficiencies which affected its members. "Mr Valley was recognised by the TTMA as a Honorary Member for his support of the annual Trade and Investment Convention (TIC) where he played an instrumental role in orchestrating key developments regarding international participation." The TTMA said Valley's support of the manufacturing sector and trade was unwavering and with his venture into consultancy as executive chairman of KCV Consulting Services Ltd., he continued to champion initiatives which bridged the informational and trade divide between the Caribbean and Latin and Central America.
The TTMA acknowledged Valley's contribution to the Association and manufacturing in T&T in general. "The TTMA appreciates and cherishes the time spent in the company of Mr. Valley, and is grateful for the depth of knowledge and experience which he has left with us all in the business community. The Association acknowledges his many contributions to the development of the entire nation and the indelible mark he made at the Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturers' Association."
