Undoubtedly, the Occupational Safety and Health Act (2004) has changed many working environments: from construction to energy. Some important issues related to health, safety, security and environment (HSSE), including implications for industrial relations under the T&T OSH Act, will be explored at the American Chamber's 15th annual HSSE conference and exhibition on September 28 and 29. Theme of the two-day event is The Paradigm Shift: Advancing a Culture of HSSE Excellence. Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has been invited to speak at the opening ceremony at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad Hotel, Dock Road, Port-of-Spain.
On the first day, Barry Dyer, health, safety and environment manager at BG T&T, will address the topic of the real cost of accidents. Communications consultant Denise Demming will look at communicating HSSE's paradigm shift. And Deonath Patrick Marajh, industrial relations specialist, will relate to participants what are the implications for industrial relations under the T&T OSH Act. The first topic speakers will discuss on day two is disaster management /business continuity. Jim Nelson, chairman, International Consortium for Organisational Resilience, will speak on the subject: Using a Standards-based Management-System Approach to Increasing Resilience.
Derek Drzezincki, general manager, Fluor Daniel South America Ltd, will make a presentation on the topic, Business Resilience and Project Management. On the subject of safety, Dr Steve Roberts, co-founder of Safety Performance Solutions, will look at Behaviour-based Safety. Later in the day, he will speak about human-based error. The Excellence in HSE Awards panel and discussion will feature the winners of the inaugural 2010 winners: Phoenix Park Gas Processors Ltd, bpTT, and Bristow Caribbean Ltd.
