The lone female competitor in 2011 does her thing.,

Women are rising to the Angostura Cocktail Challenge. Angostura communications manager Giselle Laronde-West said she was  immensely pleased there were four female competitors for C2k12. Interviewed at Angostura House, Eastern Main Road, Laventille, she said: “We have women in rum. They have the skills to be mixologists. There was only one female last year and four this year. We have Karla Cupid from Kapok Hotel, St Clair. Overall, the competitors have increased from nine and 15.” The grand prize is US$10,000 and the opportunity to be brand ambassador for Angostura (bitters/rums) for the next 12 months. Competitors are required to use at least five drops of bitters in their cocktail. Angostura alcohol is mandatory for the drinks. Each cocktail can earn 50 points—25 for taste, 15 for presentation, five for appearance, and five for aroma. Despite the onerous task of co-ordinating, Laronde-West said: “We are happy to be able to do the competition again this year.” It runs from February 15 to 23.
