Scotiabank Trinidad and Tobago Ltd yesterday announced that Richard P Young is retiring as the bank's country head and managing director after 17 years. The bank, in a statement yesterday, said Young has chosen to retire effective October 31. The statement quoted the bank's chairman and group head of international banking of Scotiabank Brian Porter as saying: "Since joining us in 1995, Richard has been a key contributor to our success in international banking and in particular, to our success in Trinidad and Tobago. "He has demonstrated a strong commitment to our customers, the community and his colleagues. The bank very much appreciates his contribution."
Young joined the bank in 1995 and since 1997 has led the team at Scotiabank through a significant period of growth and change. Under his stewardship, Scotiabank Trinidad and Tobago's assets grew by more than 200 per cent. Young was also quoted in the statement as saying: "It has been a most rewarding experience and I will miss the bank and the people, but I am confident that they are in a great position and well-placed for continued success into the future." Under Young's leadership, Scotiabank in Trinidad and Tobago expanded from two companies to six, including a charitable foundation, a brokerage firm and an insurance company.
