Digicel reduces rates in J’ca

Telecommunications company Digicel says more than half a million Jamaicans activated its “Sweetest Plan” which was launched on Friday. The plan sees Digicel offering customers a $2.89 rate for on-network calls and $6.99 for cross network calls. Digicel’s CEO, Mark Linehan, says the kind of enthusiasm about its newest call plan brings to mind when Digicel launched 11 years ago and signed up 100,000 customers in its first 100 days.
The rivalry between Digicel and LIME intensified yesterday after Digicel launched the new rate in response to LIME’s drastic cut last week which saw it introducing a $2.99 rate. But LIME is warning customers to read between the lines when considering Digicel’s $2.89 per minute rate.
