T&T is one of five Caribbean countries scheduled to his Caribbean Growth Forum (CGF) National Conferences later this month. The CGF, a platform for dialogue to stimulate sustainable inclusive growth and job creation in the subregion, is sponsored by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in conjunction with other international organisations and has been under way since June 2012.
The dynamics of the CG are based on national-level meetings attended by representatives of the public and private sectors, the press, academia, and civil society. They exchange ideas on how to strengthen the business climate, improve education, increase the competitiveness and efficiency of infrastructure, and so on.
This framework of discussion takes into account the islands' fragility, given their geographical disadvantages, the risk of natural disasters , the size of their economies, and the impossibility of accessing economies of scale, as well as their high vulnerability to external shocks.
In 2012, National Conferences were held in the Dominican Republic, Antigua & Barbuda, and Granada. Saint Lucia held the event last January, and Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, Dominica, Belize, and Jamaica are the other countries that will do so for the rest of the year.
