NGC supports UWI research initiatives
The National Gas Company of T&T (NGC) has partnered with the University of the West Indies (UWI) in a major initiative targeting research, innovation and entrepreneurship. Under the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the parties earlier this month, NGC will fund the four-pronged initiative over a period of five years (2012-16).
Its components include a professorial chair in Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Research Forum, Research Day Expo and the UWI Research Awards. Together, the four programmes will strengthen UWI’s research capacity, popularize its research output, and enhance the campus’ linkages to the corporate world. The MOU was signed on February 6th by NGC’s President, Indar Maharaj and UWI Principal, Professor Clement Sankat.
Witnessing the signing of the historic initiative were NGC’s Vice President, Human and Corporate Relations, Cassandra Patrovani-Sylvester; NGC’s Head—Community Relations (Ag) Wynda Chandler; UWI Professor, Surendra Arjoon of the Department of Management Studies; Professor Errol Simms, Dean—Faculty of Social Science; Lauren Boodhoo of the Office of Research Development and Knowledge Transfer; Shiraz Mohammed, Manager—Strategic Transformation Projects and Stacy Kennedy from the Office of the Campus Principal.
