The Department of Management Studies at the University of the West Indies (UWI), St Augustine, has launched a new unit focusing on tourism and sports. Minister of Tourism Stephen Cadiz attended and gave remarks at the event.The new Tourism, Hospitality and Sport Unit (THSU) will fill a void in T&T tourism by focusing on the analytical aspect of the industry. Students will be taught to accurately collect and interpret data to predict trends and enact policies necessary for sustainable tourism growth.
Government has clearly articulated the need for economic diversification, with tourism earmarked as the industry with the maximum potential for growth, employment, sustainability and remuneration.The Ministry of Tourism supports the establishment of the union which provides critical research and technical support to aid in the development of the sector.
