Budget seminar targets journalists
Retired Central Bank Governor, Ewart Williams and Alison Lewis, who is on pre-retirement leave as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, are due to make presentations at a media training seminar on national budget reporting on September 3. The seminar is being hosted by UWI’s Department of Economics, in conjunction with the Faculty of Humanties and Education.
The seminar targets journalists, students of journalism and other interested persons with the aim of enhancing the level of economic reporting and improving the level of discourse on national budgeting in the wider society. Lewis will speak on the issue of the budgetary process while Williams will address questions to be gleaned from budget documents. A third presenter, Malini Maharaj, who is an instructor in the Department of Economics, is scheduled to give a presentation on the broad philosophy of the budget.
