Supermarket gets early start on Christmas discounts
At least one retailer has already started offering the 20 per cent discount on oil, flour and rice products from National Flour Mills (NFM). The Christmas discounts announced by Prime Minster Kamla Persad-Bissessar on Thursday have been available at Xtra Foods Supermarket since yesterday. Sat Sukdeo, a director at the supermarket told the T&T Guardian that Xtra Foods negotiated with National Flour Mills to start offering the discount from yesterday instead of Monday. Sukdeo said this will benefit more shoppers.
The brands and sizes of items to be sold at 20 per cent lower were announced yesterday. The discounts are the result of a Government initiative through NFM and the products will be available at all retail outlets and supermarkets. Only the listed brands and sizes will qualify for the discount.
