A leading energy expert in commodities strategy from the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) joined regional analysts, academics and several representatives of government for discussions on the energy sector in T&T.They gathered for a special two-day caucus to highlight current issues and propose effective strategies to advance the sector. The event is being held under the aegis of the Energy Chamber at the Hyatt Regency in Port-of-Spain.
CIBC FirstCaribbean, which has offices in T&T, is a silver sponsor of the event being hosted under the theme, Winning in an Evolving Energy World.The bank's managing director, Trinidad, Duane Hinkson said CIBC FirstCaribbean was keen to advance the discourse on the domestic, regional and international energy sector as it is a strategic focus area for the wholesale banking business at CIBC FirstCaribbean as well as parent company CIBC.
Head of Commodities Strategy, CIBC World Markets, Katherine Spector, was a featured speaker on the first day of plenary sessions.Spector joined CIBC World Markets in 2010 to initiate commodities strategy for the bank's sales and trading desk based in New York. She is responsible for the bank's energy price forecasts and market views, and her analysis includes global energy supply/demand fundamentals, money flows, and geopolitics.
Spector is a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and serves on the board of the New York Energy Forum, an educational organisation dedicated to increasing public knowledge about energy issues.
She appears regularly in print and television media and was acknowledged by Bloomberg in 2013 as the most accurate forecaster of benchmark WTI prices over a two-year span. Breaking Media and New York Energy Week identified Spector as one of the top ten high-profile women in the energy space. Spector is cited as "one of the most reliably high-profile faces and names in the New York energy scene." She is a political science graduate of Yale University.
