T&T's agriculture sector continues to grow, according to Food Production Minister Devant Maharaj, Minister of Food Production, who said the food import bill dropped two per cent between 2010 and 203 and food inflation rate is down to 5.2 per cent
"Furthermore, the summary of economic indicators showed that growth for the first three quarters of 2013 remained positive and steady.
Provisional data obtained by the Central Bank on the quarterly Gross Domestic Product (GDP) showed the agriculture sector for the first time in 40 years experienced five consecutive quarters of growth from the first quarter of 2012 to the first quarter of 2013," the minister said.
Maharaj was speaking at an Incentive and Flood Relief Cheque Distribution ceremony in Curepe where 400 agriculture incentive cheques worth $2.2 million and 61 flood claim cheques amounting to more than $509,000 were handed out to farmers in the counties of St George West, St George East, St Andrew/ St David and Caroni.
