Local government elections will take place on November 28.
Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley made the announcement during a post-cabinet press briefing on Thursday.
Overall market activity resulted from trading in 12 securities of which two advanced, three declined and seven traded firm. Trading activity on the first tier market registered a volume of 148,069 shares crossing the floor of the Exchange valued at $1,391,027.25. Jamaica Money Market Brokers Ltd was the volume leader with 102,154 shares changing hands for a value of $41,883.14, followed by Neal and Massy Holdings Ltd with 12,753 shares traded for $886,645.33.
GraceKennedy Ltd contributed 11,000 shares with a value of $37,950, while Guardian Holdings Ltd added 10,800 shares valued at $154,440. Neal and Massy Holdings Ltd enjoyed the day’s largest gain, increasing $0.27 to end the day at $69.52. Conversely, Jamaica Money Market Brokers Ltd suffered the day’s greatest loss, falling $0.04 to close at $0.41. Clico Investment Fund was the only active security on the mutual fund market, posting a volume of 53,815 shares valued at $1,165,371.65. It advanced by $0.01 to end at $21.66.
