On Tuesday night the $20 million ultra-modern multiplex was formally opened at Michael Rahael Boulevard Tarouba, San Fernando with a red-carpet event that included a cocktail reception and movie screenings at five of its ten screens.Patrons were treated to a special screening of the Hollywood movie, Into the Storm, in the multiplex's showpiece CXC floor to ceiling screen, which features stadium seating and 360 degree surround sound using the latest audio technology–Dolby Atmos.
Caribbean Cinemas President Robert Carrady, who flew to T&T from his Puerto Rico base, told TG Business South Park Cinemas 10 was ten years in the making."We saw an opportunity in Trinidad for that (multiplex cinemas) and Trincity (Caribbean Cinemas 8) proved to us that there was a need for multiplex cinema in Trinidad. Believe it or not we started looking for sites in the South back in 2004."It has been ten years since we first started looking for sites and it was just a natural to come to San Fernando," Carrady said.
He said he entered into talks with developer Joseph Rahael and they came to a mutual agreement to open South Park, which the first shopping and entertainment centre in South Trinidad.Carrady said he was pleased that the cinema was completed before the end of the Summer movies period.He said he believes South Park has something special for everyone in the family and believes it will do well in San Fernando.
