Bainbridge, USA–Trinidadian Paul Pereira is guiding Meredian Inc, a biopolymer manufacturer, to global prominence with the world's most advanced 100 per cent biodegradable plastic, as they go before the world in the transition from petroleum-based plastics to bioplastics.
Meredian's biopolymers disintegrate within 12 to 16 weeks in all six different conditions, including fresh and marine water, home and industrial composting, anaerobic and soil. This makes them the most ecologically sound biodegradable plastic in the world and, with the different potential applications, the biopolymer can be used to make any product that is currently being made from petroleum-based plastic.
As the shift to reducing plastic continues, Meredian released two new videos to depict their process of creating their 100 per cent biodegradable plastic, and the benefits of moving away from petro-plastics to create a sustainable future.
The purpose of the videos is to give consumers a better understanding of what PHA is and the process of using plant-derived oils, such as canola, to create it. The cycle of farming canola to create the plastic and breaking down and putting nutrients back into the soil proves there is an opportunity to use plastic without wasting or depleting earth's resources, and also without creating more trash.
The first video titled, "The PHA Cycle Animation," explains the making of Meredian's PHA biopolymer. The animated video takes the viewers step by step to fully understand the full PHA lifecycle from plants to plastics. It also presents the different products that can be made with PHA.
The other video titled, "A Portrait in Sustainability," focuses on the real life applications of using Meredian's biodegradable plastic. Using Meredian's PHA, DaniMer's PLA and even the combination of both can help companies create the products they want without having to mine or deplete the earth and fill landfills with plastic that doesn't biodegrade for several hundred years. The video depicts Meredian's mission, which is to provide solutions that can help create a greener tomorrow.
Meredian is at the leading edge of this innovative technology and these videos present their goals as they continue to move forward. Some of their recent accomplishments include becoming FDA Approved for Food Substance Contact, receiving six Vinotte Certifications and affirmation of scalability presented by global provider Tate and Lyle.
Additionally, Meredian has merged with its sister company DaniMer under the wholly-owned subsidiary Meredian Holdings Group Inc. The merger provides both companies with a broader range of services to offer clients and higher levels of efficiencies and shared resources.
