The Tobago International Cycling Classic (TICC) held September 30�October 5, celebrated the best of Tobago and positively positioned the island to the world, Marcelle Joseph, British Airways District Manager, T&T and St Lucia, has said. The airline was one of the sponsors of the 28th anniversary of the race that has become a calendar event for cyclists from all over the world including Europe, the USA, Latin America and the Caribbean.
Joseph noted that "TICC has established a reputation as a world-class event which conforms to the highest international standards and provides the perfect opportunity to promote Tobago as a sport and leisure destination." She noted that British Airways has had a long history of supporting major sporting events and has assisted various athletes and teams in travelling to competitions abroad.
"The Tobago International Cycling Classic", she said, "gave us all an opportunity to celebrate what's great about Tobago at the biggest sporting event in our twin-isle. British Airways is pleased to have played an essential part in an event that touched thousands of people around the world and brought economic and social benefit to the people who live in Tobago."
Tobago is growing in popularity as a vacation destination for European tourists and ever-responsive to heightened demand, British Airways will increase flights from London Gatwick from one to two per week this winter. Tickets for the period are now available for purchase at www.ba.com. The TICC 2014 saw over 300 competitors from 25 countries participating in the six-day event. In addition to top quality competitive cycle racing it included two days of mountain bike races and a kids cycling programme. The race was carded as the main event of the UCI�the world governing body for sports, cycling and oversees international competitive cycling events.
