Gulf City Mall came alive recently when Captain Consumer made his big debut at the Consumer Affairs Division (CAD) of the Ministry of Trade and Industry Christmas on a Budget caravan.
Consumer advocates educated the public about their rights as consumers, as well as shopping tips for the Christmas season.
More than 500 shoppers visited the caravan, inquiring about the role of the CAD and to participate in the many quizzes about CAD, vying for a chance to win a hamper and branded promotional items. Every hour, from noon, visitors who correctly answered five questions won a Christmas Goodie hamper.
Shoppers received the following advice:
2 When making a purchase, demand a receipt. It is your proof of purchase.
2 If you are purchasing an item which turns out to be defective, you can receive any form of redress.
2 Clauses such as, "No exchange, no refund" or "Absolutely no refund" or "No refund on sale items" are illegal.
Look out for Captain Consumer and the CAD Caravan on Friday on the Brian Lara Promenade, Port-of-Spain.
