By now word would have already spread among Venezuelans about the rich potential in T&T for a better life for themselves and family members. News like this will travel swiftly.
As already noticed, the influx is upon us and many are already complaining for they are witnessing the impact. Although it may be small at present, it will increase in the future.
While some Venezuelans maybe okay with their documentation to enter T&T, I firmly believe that it will not be so for all. For proof of this, look back in history and see what takes place throughout the world when countries are faced with this type of scenario. There is always an "opportunity" to bring people into the country illegally for a price.
Do not think for one moment that this will not happen; many will be willing to take the risk if the price is right.Let us brace ourselves for the illegal entry of vast numbers, for desperate times will encourage great risk-taking measures.
I would like the relevant authorities to envisage the magnitude of this situation. Do we really have what it takes to patrol all our borders 24 hours a day? If not, please do some serious thinking about it.
The door is already open and indirectly the invitation was given; it is now up to us to take the necessary steps to prevent abuse in all areas.
