Petroleum Dealers Association (PDA) president Robindranath Naraynsingh says customers have generally been accommodating on the decision by some gas station owners to accept only cash purchases for fuel.
"Though some customers have been disappointed, by and large the majority of customers are aware of the issues facing the gas station business and have been willing to work with us at this time," he said.
"In that regard I want to thank the public for their understanding of the issues and the media for highlighting the crisis gas stations are facing and bringing it to the public's attention."
Naraynsingh said since the implementation of the cash-only policy last Friday, the PDA has not had any feedback from the Energy Ministry.
"Now that there has been the announcement of a new minister, we're hoping he will be in a better position to assist us in resolving the challenges we're currently facing," he said.
Last week the PDA announced that electionic payments will no longer be accepted at gas stations operated by its members. However, motorists are still be able to pay for fuel using their debit and credit cards at Unipet gas stations and at NP's 60 owned and operated stations.
