Majority state-owned national carrier Caribbean Airlines Ltd (CAL), has been named the 2025 Internationally Known…T&T Owned Company of the Year.
The award, sponsored by the Ministry of Trade, Investment and Tourism, was announced on Tuesday during the T&T Chamber’s “Champions of Business: True Stories” series.
This prestigious accolade is awarded to a locally owned company that has made a significant contribution to T&T’s economy and international reputation.
CAL stood out among a group of nominees, earning recognition for its strategic expansion across regional and international markets and for its unwavering commitment to service excellence.
Previous recipients of this award include Chief Brand Products, Carib Brewery, KC Confectionery and Associated Brands Industries Ltd.
CAL now joins this esteemed group, having been acknowledged for its role in promoting the T&T brand globally and for being a consistent symbol of national pride and connectivity.
Kiran Maharaj, producer of the Champions of Business series and the chamber’s immediate past president, congratulated CAL on its achievement and highlighted the airline’s role in connecting the Caribbean to the world, describing it as more than just a carrier.
“Caribbean Airlines proudly flying the red, white and black, has become more than a carrier—it is the wings of our region, connecting families, cultures, and nations across 27 destinations in the Caribbean, north and south America,” she said.
In its 20th year, the Champions of Business Awards has become a cornerstone event in the local business community, celebrating innovation, leadership, and the enduring impact of Trinidad and Tobago’s most influential companies.
CAL is 88.06 per cent owned by the T&T Government and 11.94 per cent by the Government of Jamaica. The airline’s board is chaired Reyna Kowlessar, an attorney, and comprises vice chair, Videsh Praim and directors, Sharlene Maharaj, Amit Krishan Mahabir, Prof. Selwyn Cudjoe, Adam Moss, Larren Peart and Alicia Edwards.
