After 14 years at its current address on Cipriani Bouvelard in Port-of-Spain, Town Restaurant & Bar is preparing to turn the page, but not close the book.In a social media post yesterday, the restaurant announced that Saturday will be its last day at the location it has occupied for over a decade.
“After 14 years, the time has come to say goodbye to this location. We are moving, and Saturday is our last day here. Join us this week to celebrate one last time at this location,” the post read.
The message thanked loyal guests for their continued support and “amazing memories,” while promising a new chapter ahead.
The wording triggered an immediate reaction online. Several customers flooded Town’s Facebook page, admitting they were alarmed and initially thought the restaurant was shutting down.
Others expressed relief once it became clear the move was only across the road, with some posting that they would be booking their tables soon at the new space.
By yesterday afternoon, owner Jenna Sharma-Creteau moved to clarify that the business is relocating to a new building just opposite its current premises.
She explained that the transition has been in the works for some time and described the move as both strategic and deeply personal. The relocation, she noted, is being undertaken in honour of her father, Bissoondath Sharma Basdeo, who died in December at age 78.
She shared that he would have been proud to see the new iteration of Town and that the family is dedicating the transition to his memory.
Basdeo was a well-known figure in the local hospitality community and the former husband of Jenny Dan-Sharma, operator of Jenny’s on the Boulevard.
