History will be created on January 13 when Kalypso Revue becomes the first calypso tent to stage its show at the recently opened southern National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA).
Scheduled to begin at 8.30 pm, this signal premiere follows the tent's traditional opening on Friday night, at The Velodrome in Arima, at the same time.
Kalypso Revue is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and the tent's management is intent on making the 2013 calypso season a milestone event. Last weekend, tent spokesman Wilton Howell said, "everything is ship shape at the Revue and we are ready to make this one of the tent's most successful seasons. In addition to our usual star-studded cast, we are also giving away valuable door prizes to lucky patrons on show night.
The Revue is headed by former National Calypso Monarch Sugar Aloes (Michael Osuna) and its cast also includes Skatie, Chalkdust, Baron, Bally, Pink Panther, Devon Seales, Sexy Suzie, Nicole Greaves, Impulse, Mba, Tony Prescott and Tenille Cooper. As is now tradition, the tribute to late Grandmaster Kitchener segment will be performed by Starr George. The Revue show is hosted by Sprangalang and CG.
Following its January 13 south premiere, the Revue stages its north premiere on Thursday, January 17, at SWWTU Hall, Wrightson Road, Port-of-Spain, at 8.30 pm.
