His­to­ry will be cre­at­ed on Jan­u­ary 13 when Ka­lyp­so Re­vue be­comes the first ca­lyp­so tent to stage its show at the re­cent­ly opened south­ern Na­tion­al Acad­e­my for the Per­form­ing Arts (NA­PA).

Sched­uled to be­gin at 8.30 pm, this sig­nal pre­miere fol­lows the tent's tra­di­tion­al open­ing on Fri­day night, at The Velo­drome in Ari­ma, at the same time.

Ka­lyp­so Re­vue is cel­e­brat­ing its 50th an­niver­sary this year and the tent's man­age­ment is in­tent on mak­ing the 2013 ca­lyp­so sea­son a mile­stone event. Last week­end, tent spokesman Wilton How­ell said, "every­thing is ship shape at the Re­vue and we are ready to make this one of the tent's most suc­cess­ful sea­sons. In ad­di­tion to our usu­al star-stud­ded cast, we are al­so giv­ing away valu­able door prizes to lucky pa­trons on show night.

The Re­vue is head­ed by for­mer Na­tion­al Ca­lyp­so Monarch Sug­ar Aloes (Michael Os­una) and its cast al­so in­cludes Skatie, Chalk­dust, Baron, Bal­ly, Pink Pan­ther, De­von Seales, Sexy Suzie, Nicole Greaves, Im­pulse, Mba, Tony Prescott and Te­nille Coop­er. As is now tra­di­tion, the trib­ute to late Grand­mas­ter Kitch­en­er seg­ment will be per­formed by Starr George. The Re­vue show is host­ed by Spran­galang and CG.

Fol­low­ing its Jan­u­ary 13 south pre­miere, the Re­vue stages its north pre­miere on Thurs­day, Jan­u­ary 17, at SWW­TU Hall, Wright­son Road, Port-of-Spain, at 8.30 pm.
