The bmobile Eye Slam concert series took off in fine style at the Aura Lounge in Port-of-Spain. The first of this weekly series of Carnival-themed concerts scored on many levels with the masses as soca diva Fay Ann Lyons-Alvarez tore down the house with a rousing performance. Dressed in a black, sequined dress, the former International Power and Groovy Soca Monarch took centre stage for an interesting question and answer segment hosted by Slam 100.5FM personalities Serala and Lurbz, where Fay Ann answered questions asked by eager audience members and posted by fans on Slam's Facebook page.
During this Q&A, the talented singer-songwriter described the brand 'Fay Ann Lyons" as one that is full of energy, self-confidence and woman power and stated that one of her proudest moments in life thus far was being able to perform in the late stages of her pregnancy. She also hinted on plans to have another child in the future. On the topic of her daughter Syri, she shared that she was inspired to write the lyrics "Drop on the ground and roll" after witnessing one of the three year old's temper tantrums. When asked about if her daughter will be involved in music, she affirmed, "If she chooses this path she will have my full support. However, I would love for her to one day become Prime Minister." Fay Ann, who admits to doing whatever she can to keep her fans musically satisfied, did not disappoint the packed venue with her dynamic music set. Backed by her band The Asylum, the daughter of Super Blue started off her performance with a stripped-down acoustic version of her 2012 tune Denial, before segueing into her arsenal of fan favourites, including Heavy T Bumper, Start Wining, Call Me, Display, Get On, Consider it Done, and of course her current hit, Miss Behave.
Her performance also featured a session of beloved reggae and pop songs and a well-received appearance by her husband Bunji Garlin, who will feature in his own concert special at Aura in upcoming weeks. Marketing manager of bmobile, Naresha Ali-Belmonte was on hand for the festivities and shared, "We at bmobile are very pleased to be associated with this exciting weekly concept as it provides a new avenue for our country's rich culture and talent to be on display." The Eye Slam concert series is an initiative of Slam 100.5FM and bmobile and is geared towards giving the soca fans the opportunity to get up close and personal with their musical icons and giving the artistes a forum to connect with their audiences in a more intimate setting.
