The Pouchet/Plummer duo is at it again for Panorama 2012. Gie Dem Tempo is the title of the selection PCS Nitrogen Silver Stars Steel Orchestra is taking to Panorama. It was composed by Edwin Pouchet, with lyrics by Alvin Daniell, and vocalised by Denyse Plummer. Previous songs that featured the duo were: Identity-2003, Frenzy-2005, and Wake Up-2011. Plummer, a former National Calypso Monarch, loves the steelpan, and credits her rise as an entertainer to her association with the instrument. Her career in entertainment had its roots in the panyard, singing music fashioned for the steelpan. She said: "Remember, that's how I started off. It was Phase II Pan Groove and 'Boogsie' for the first four years of my career."
During the next 20 years she established a relationship with Silver Stars, becoming a fixture on the Parang and Steel concert series staged by the band at its Tragarete Road, Newtown, Port-of-Spain, headquarters. At the 20th anniversary concert in 2010, she was one of two entertainers who have had uninterrupted appearances on the playbill. While providing vocals for pan compositions from Mark Loquan, Plummer grew closer to Silver Stars. Over the years Pouchet, leader and arranger of the band, chose several of Loquan's songs, vocalised by Plummer, as its tunes-of-choice for the Panorama competition. Plummer was the recipient of a National Award in 2011-Humming Bird Medal (Gold)-for her contribution to culture.
