It was back to school for the first time in years for Machel Mon­tano and Kees Di­ef­fen­thaller, when they pre­formed at their for­mer school, Pre­sen­ta­tion Col­lege on Jan­u­ary 29. The de­fend­ing Groovy So­ca Monarch and Pow­er So­ca Monarch cham­pi­ons per­formed on one stage for the sec­ond edi­tion of Pres­tige: Gold Edi­tion all-in­clu­sive fete. Held on the col­lege ground by the Pre­sen­ta­tion Col­lege Past Stu­dents As­so­ci­a­tion, pa­trons of all ages gath­ered for a good time, among them for­mer prime min­is­ter and past stu­dent Bas­deo Pan­day; deputy House Speak­er Lyn­di­ra Ou­dit; and for­mer na­tion­al crick­et cap­tain Daren Gan­ga.

Al­so on the en­ter­tain­ment was ca­lyp­so icon, King David Rud­der, who in­voked loud roars of ap­pre­ci­a­tion. Rud­der gave a per­for­mance that had the at­ten­tion of both young and ma­ture adults, with his ren­di­tion of the clas­sics Ca­lyp­so Mu­sic and Laven­tille. How­ev­er, when it came to hav­ing com­mand of the stage, it was a toss up be­tween Machel Mon­tano HD and Kees the Band. Tak­ing the stage first, the for­mer Palmiste res­i­dent Kees and his broth­ers Jon and Hans blitz the crowd with hits such as Pre­ci­sion Wine, Ah Com­ing and Head Bad. Team HD, which in­clud­ed a group of ex­ot­ic dancer, added the ex­tra sen­su­al­i­ty to the night. Machel, Farmer Nap­py and Patrice Robert took over the stage and had par­ty­go­ers soaked in per­spi­ra­tion and fol­low­ing every com­mand giv­en by the 2011 Road March champ.
