Beauty, talent and intelligence ruled on Saturday night as 18-year-old Rachael Baptiste was crowned Carnival Queen at the Miss Point Fortin Carnival Pageant. The young beauty is all set to represent this country in the Miss United Nation Pageant to be held in Jamaica later this year. In a show which patrons were made to wait an hour because the tardiness of some delegates, a large audience at the auditorium of the Point Fortin West Secondary School was treated to a wonderful show. The five contestants who graced the stage gave the judges a tough task at the show which was held for the first time in ten years. Even though it was a close call, Baptiste finished 22 point better then her closest competitor Mandisa Pompey.
Representing the oilfield village of Lot Ten, Baptiste excelled in all categories. She also copped the special prize of Top Model and Best Talent. Pompey, who represented Fanny Village, won the trophy for Best Physique and Best Evening Gown. Third place winner Pauline Calliste took top honours in the Miss Elegance and Miss Intelligence. It was a splendid Carnival show by the girls who displayed costumes from Legacies' 2012 presentation Flight. It was Miss Gonzales, Tamika Thomas, who won the prize for best portrayal of Carnival Costumes, while Mariah Rodriguez won the title of Miss Photogenic.
