A friendly Groovy Soca Monarch title rivalry at this year’s South Cancer All-Inclusive Charity Fete between Mr Fete Machel Montano and the Bachannalist Kerwin Dubois caused patrons to erupt into cheers. On the San Fernando Hill on February 4, Machel, in full colour, invited Dubois on the stage to perform his hit single Bachannalist and the two demonstrated how fiercely competitive the title challenge really is. Machel told supporters that when he steps into the Queen’s Park Oval on Fantastic Friday, he will leave with the Groovy Soca Monarch. However, Dubois replied apologetically, that it was his year. But judging from the screams echoed by the supporters, it seemed like the former Fyzabad resident, Machel, was slightly ahead in the game.

Machel and team HD had the thousands of patrons pumping there flags as he belted out his selection from his Double M album; We Revelling, De Vibes Cyah Done and Mr Fete. Among those patrons partying hard were President George Maxwell Richards and his wife Dr Jean Ramjohn Richards, who went into the crowd and danced along with other patrons. Attorney General Anand Ramlogan, Health Minister Dr Fuad Khan, Education Minister Dr Tim Gopeesingh, deputy Senate President Lyndira Oudit, Food Production Minister Vasant Barath, Housing Minister Dr Roodal Moonilal, Public Administration Minister Carolyn Seepersad Bachan and Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley were also in attendance.
