Shurwayne gets up close and personal with fans at NAPA

Shurwayne Winchester continues to prove that he is an artiste of a different calibre. On February 15, Winchester’s die-hard female fans flocked to the National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA) in Port-of-Spain for what was billed as an up close and personal show featuring the former Road March, Groovy and Power Soca Monarch champ and a few of his very good friends in the business.
A sexy moment for the women
The show kicked off at 8.30pm and from the beginning, the screams, shrieks and in some instances feminine whistles made it absolutely clear that this was not an event with men in mind. Winchester delivered a number of his chart topping hit singles of years gone by, leading up to present day. The shy artiste found himself smiling and almost crumbling under his fans’ outbursts of adoration during his performance of his 1999 classic, Get Out My Dreams.
He brought out a bed on stage and minutes later, wearing white pajama pants, a barebacked Winchester lay on the bed with the lights off while two of his female dancers sashayed around the bed as though invading his dream. The song that followed was one that everyone seemed to know and with which they identified the Tobago born artiste.
Maxi Priest sizzles
Among the entertainers that graced the stage with Winchester was reggae great, Maxi Priest. Together, the pair delivered the hit single, Make It Yours. Priest subsequently waded into a few of his well known songs, among them Just A Little Bit Longer, Wild World and his collaborative single with Shabba Ranks, House Call, in which Winchester injected a heavy tone, mimicking Shabba, much to the delight of the audience.
Calypso Rose brings down the house
Raymond Ramnarine of Dil E Nadan and Kerwin Du Bois were both billed to perform at the event, but were no-shows and for this Winchester apologised to his audience. Du Bois had reportedly phoned just prior to the show indicating that his vocals were strained and he was going to be resting his voice that night. Despite this, however, the show ended on a high note with Calypso Rose and Winchester giving a memorable performance.
