Fantastic finish to Carnival Tuesday

The “feast of the flesh” came to a fantastic finish yesterday, as more than 85 bands revelled across the big stage to be judged for Band of the Year. It was no unusual thing to see Harts band at the entrance to the Savannah stage, competing with the rise of the sun to see who could cross first. The band exposed the Wrath of the Gods, in brilliant, elaborate costumes, with one individual costume being portrayed by former Miss Universe Wendy Fitzwilliam.
Much of the beaded costumes were imported and then reassembled here, and spectators could not help but admire the intricate work and kaleidoscope of colours. A euporhic crowd had to be ushered away by security from the stage areas on numerous occasions, as the stands were simply not close enough. A few large bands such as We International, Bliss, Yuma, Island People, Fantasy Carnival and Trini Revellers “pumped their flags” to songs of Road March front runner Machel Montano and Iwer George, both of whom gave great performances when they sang on the music trucks going past the stage at the Savannah.
Frenzied frolickers actually dropped on the ground and rolled their way across the stage when they heard Fay Ann Lyon’s popular soca rendition, Drop On Di Ground And Roll. In fact, even the security of various bands were incorporated into the presentations which added a humorous feel in the midst of serious revelry.
