You just can’t beat former International Soca Monarch and Road March Monarch Austin “Superblue” Lyons when it comes to stirring large audiences into a frenzy. That’s what the loveable veteran entertainer did to patrons at 3Canal’s Backyard Lime event on Friday at Bohemia on Murray Street in Woodbrook, with a repertoire that included Signal to Lara, Bacchanal Time and the 2013 smash hit Fantastic Friday.

If the showcase was a test run of his Carnival 2013 hit song titled Fantastic Friday which is being touted as the song that will again catapult him to victory in the upcoming Play Whe International Soca Monarch Competition, it worked. Caribbean Prestige Foundation for the Performing Arts is the producer of the coveted monarch contest and Guardian Media Ltd is the official media partner.

At the Backyard Jam, patrons had to wait to hear that selection, but judging from their expression it was worth it. Superblue took the spotlight just after midnight to a crowd that was already energised from 3Canal’s dynamic delivery mere moments before. In salute to Superblue’s majesty, the delighted crowd treated him to an encore.
