In 2011, Denise "Saucy Wow" Belfon boasted she was going international after her performance at the Soca Monarch finals with her Dance and Dingolay hit on the Swahili riddim.
Although she didn't win the competition in the groovy category, she did win the second prize for best presentation.
Last year, instead of making an even greater comeback Belfon failed to deliver an anthem to her fans as she usually does.
Her selection Boldface didn't gain much popularity for the season and she just seemed very "anti-Saucy."
In an interview with the "wining specialist," she said the reason for last year's laid back approach was due to the death of her brother.
"I didn't really tell anybody, but it was a very difficult time...very hard for me to focus," said Belfon.
She revealed she suffered overwhelming grief and as a result it became challenging to put her best foot forward while still in mourning.
"I understand that I am an entertainer and I am expected to deliver no matter what, but losing a loved one so close to you...well nothing else at the time really seemed to matter," said Belfon.
Well it's been a year since her brother's passing and though Belfon still has her sad moments, she has managed to scramble through that melancholy web, returning to the scene bigger and better.
"The fans have Saucy back," she laughs.
Wining Queen written by the Ghost Writers' crew and produced by Mil Beatz on the Project 5 Riddim, has been tearing up the airwaves and is a "best tune" at fetes.
It's no wonder she is very confident that the song will not only do well at the finals on February 8, but she is adamant she is taking the crown–easily beating out the competition in the groovy category.
Belfon said she is extremely pleased with how the season has been going for her. She said she has already been booked to perform both regionally and internationally until May.
Speaking on her preparedness for the Fantasic Friday stage, Belfon who has been in the finals 13 times since entering the show, said in a nonchalant tone: "I am taking everything."
She said she was going to be the element of surprise.
"I am not going to give them what they expect from me. You know everybody might be saying Saucy coming to wine down the place and stick it.
I am the wining specialist yes, but there is a lot more to me than my waist and I will give them a little one on one on Fantasic Friday," she said. Belfon praised her new management team for ensuring that everything has run smoothly this season.
She said this year is by far the best she has experienced and she also thanked her fans for loving and supporting her through the years.
"When I get on stage and I see how my fans react to just hearing my name, it is a feeling unlike any other. It encourages me to continue doing my best," said Belfon.
Apart from Wining Queen, Belfon has several other offerings for Carnival 2013 including Ah taking Everything and Wuk it Up on the Lord Street Riddim to name a few. She has done a few collaborations as well with Mr Renzo, Razor and a song with chutney soca singer Neisha B which is due to be released in 2014.
Her promise to the fans is, "Come out in your numbers at the National Stadium on Fantastic Friday to support Saucy–I will not disappoint!"
