An explosion of colour and creativity will dominate the streets of Port-of-Spain today as Carnival celebrations move into full gear, signalling the much-anticipated reign of the Merry Monarch. Under the watchful eye of an increased law enforcement presence, J’Ouvert masqueraders will be first to start the proceedings at 4 am today, before giving way to thousands of jubilant masqueraders in the major bands later on in the day.

Fans can look forward to the individual costume competition along South Quay, Port-of-Spain, followed by the parade of  J’Ouvert bands. Amid the revelry, however, J’Ouvert bands have again been warned to comply with instructions and follow their designated routes.
